Private Property... a patent Idea

What does Private Property mean at all if we disregard private ownership of some things? Incentive is an unavoidable aspect of the self interested and we must understand that even Enlightened Self Interest comes with a cost and without having some protection of the fruits of one's labor there's no way of telling how disinterested the idea generators will become? Some feel that any new Idea, Intellectual or physical, should belong to the tribe so to speak... and there are instances where that might be valid, but the main problem with that is

some tribal members may not have use for a particular product or idea or want to participate in the costs of development

hence the best and only way to regulate the constant onslaught of products and ideas is to measure their worth in a somewhat free market with protections for the inventors and the idea generators and those that strive to make life better for themselves and all of us in the process... The first U.S. patent was granted in 1790 to Samuel Hopkins of Philadelphia for "making pot and pearl ashes"-a cleaning formula used in soapmaking.

We could argue that everyone has a RIGHT to SOAP...

not that everyone would use it as often as others, but let's say however people washed prior to this was just horrible and it would be a violation of human rights not to give free access to Mr. Adam's NEW and IMPROVED Soap formula. Then what?... more to come
