When government should not bail out citizens

Most Americans feel the same way about regulation and government as they feel about art.

They don't know much about it, but they know what they like. What they like is having money to burn. Everybody is screaming about foreclosures, but those same people screamed with joy when they refinanced their houses when values skyrocketed. They blew the money and when the economy went into the toilet they couldn't make their mortgage an/or escrow payments and they couldn't sell their houses.
I personally know a couple who owned their home and refinanced it for about $250,000. They used the money for new vehicles, including a brand new Harley, went gambling on a cruise ship a few times and nickled and dimed the rest of it away. They both made good salaries plus she collected child support from her ex-husband. I heard about their home being foreclosed on in 2007. When they got their tax returns in 08 they used it to hire a lawyer to file bankruptcy. The lawyer told them the Harley would have to be sold along with some other assets they had. When the stimulus package was approved, they withdrew their bankruptcy filing and have been living in the house without paying on the mortgage, delaying the foreclosure with the attorney's help. Property taxes and insurance were included in the mortgage.
I'm sure they will eventually lose the house but I know they will never be homeless. Both of them have family who have helped them in the past.
Money Management must be taught in the schools as a core subject.
And, WE MUST give up the instant gratification mentality that is prevalent in this country.
Neither of which can be federally legislated but are both necessary to help prevent bringing us back to the brink of disaster 20 years down the road.
I just gave myself a whopper of a headache.
Let me go see if I can get some stimulus money.
